Are you tired of suffering through chronic pain? Dr. Richard R. Latimer of Latimer Chiropractic in San Francisco can help. Below is more information about physiotherapy.
What Is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a collection of physical treatment methods, such as exercise, massage and myofascial therapy, ultrasound , low level laser and use of ice and heat treatments. Physiotherapy does not use surgery or drugs to help a patient heal. Nutritional and lifestyle advice may also be used as part of a treatment program.
How Does Physiotherapy Work?
Cooling and heating treatments, chiropractic adjustments, myofascial therapy and physical medicine modalities are methods used to help a patient heal from injury or chronic pain. Below is more information about each of these methods.
Chiropractic Adjustments
Chiropractic adjustments are physical techniques performed to realign the neck and spine. There are several different techniques, and receiving chiropractic adjustments can take pressure off of muscles, tendons, and other soft tissue, bringing pain relief to these areas.
Physical Therapy
Physiotherapy is another term for physical medicine modalities. Specific exercises can be used to help a patient heal from a specific injury, condition, or chronic pain. These exercises may be performed in the office with the help of our chiropractor. Some exercises can be done from the comfort of your home, in between treatments to help speed up the healing process.
Massage and Myofascial therapy
Myofascial therapy uses deep, circular strokes or rapid oscillation to increase blood flow to the muscles to relieve muscle tightness and chronic hypertonicity which helps to relieve pain and allow the Chiropractic adjustments to hold better. Massage and myofascial therapy can be administered by a licensed trained massage therapist or by the Chiropractor using a state of the art equipment such as the Rapid Release PRO II which is an electronic handheld device which oscillates at 10,000 RPM to decrease muscle spasm. Please note that we do not have a licensed certified massage therapist in our office.
COOLING AND HEAT TREATMENTS
Various heat and cold treatments, such as Infrared, far infrared and Low-level laser performed in the office, can help increase deep blood flow, decrease inflammation and speed up healing. Ice and hot packs may also be used after Chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy and are usually applied at home by the patient. We will provide instruction on how to apply these therapies at home.
